Lively Hub of Activities- Supi Community Centre

Posted in Village Ways Charitable Trust on Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

The fruitful synergy between the Trust and locals has led to the establishment of the Supi Community Centre, following two years of hard work. The Trust aimed to provide central, clean, well lit working premises, run by the village handicraft committee for income generating activities.

Our centre is a lively hub of activities equipped with 9 foot- operated machines, space for tassel making, knitting and ringal weaving. The ladies are coming to the centre everyday to make beautiful pouches and bags with tassels. This also gives them time to sit together, interact and share health information they have learnt. A separate room for health is there at the centre where health trainings happen. The Asha (local midwife of the village) who is also our master trainers comes to the centre regularly to cater to health needs of the community.  We have written to the CMO (chief medical officer) to send a doctor at the centre at least once a month.

Presently, we are working on capacity building of women and youth for sustaining livelihoods and elevating local handicrafts.  A demonstration of weaving was done last month.  Training are being planned for revival of weaving which does not exist anymore at Supi village. Number of ladies are keen to begin weaving.

Finally we look forward to assess the needs and organize series of trainings to make our centre ready for the world!!
