HER Network- Health awareness Project

Posted in News on Monday, May 25th, 2015

The project was started after a comprehensive survey designed and redesigned after consulting with the district Chief Medical Officer, an expert Health Committee comprising local governing body and other stakeholders, and under the guidance of Dr. Vandana Lal (Executive director, Dr lal pathlabs) to suit the needs of village. The base line survey was conducted among 150 women of the village, which constitute 10% women living the village. Through this survey we identified the 'critical health needs'.

Based on the report, we launched the Nutrition training module, a critical health need on World Health Day, 7 April 2015. BSR provided training to the volunteers of VWCT, who further trained the Peer Health Educators. Peer Health Educators are the self motivated volunteers of the village who act as 'Change agents'. They conduct formal and informal meetings and discussions to create awareness amongst the peers. Every PHE covers 10 families in the time span of 2 months, thereby covering 300 families of Supi, Talla, Talai.

The PHE are highly motivated, organised a rally, mobilising health awareness, which has motivated other people in the village to volunteer for the cause.

Our next module on 'Hygiene and Water Borne' diseases would be launched in June 2015, in next few days.
